Article Writing - How to Format Your Article So It Will Never Be Rejected

By Herman Drost

If you plan on writing and submitting many articles to article directories, ezines and other online publications you need to format them correctly. Publishers receive many article submissions each week so if your article is correctly formatted it has less chance of being rejected.

Where to write your article

I usually write my articles in Microsoft Word because you can adjust the number of words per line and adjust the size of the text so you can read it easily. I then copy and paste it into notepad because the word processor does not use correct formatting for online publishers.

Another great editor is textpad. This is a powerful replacement for Notepad. I also use it to edit web pages and scripts because of notepad's limitations in this area.

Top 10 Steps to format your article

Most ezine publishers prefer short articles between 500 and 750 words. Short "tip" articles of just a couple of paragraphs are also very popular. Articles should be formatted to 65 characters per line or less, including spaces, and written in short paragraph sections.

1. Must be unique

Your article must be unique. This means you should not copy someone else's article and submit it for publication. Editors will recognize this and may ban you from sending them any more articles.

2. Article length

Most ezine publishers prefer articles between 500 and 750 words. Read publisher guidelines before submitting your article because often there is a minimum and maximum length.

3. Title

Use a descriptive title that encapsulates what is contained in your article body. You need to satisfy both your readers and the search engines, so include your main keywords plus create a catchy title that grabs your reader's attention.

4. Sentences

Format each sentence to 60-65 words before submitting it for publication. This enables people to read it easier than if you had long sentences.

5. Paragraphs

Write short paragraphs of 5-10 lines so you don't make your reader's eyes tired. Reading text on a monitor is harder on the eyes than reading printed material.

6. Resource box

This should be no longer than 6 lines. Include your name, web site address, a unique offer (ie newsletter subscription) and a call to action.

7. Correct spelling and grammar

An article that contains spelling mistakes and grammatical errors suggests you are unprofessional. Some readers will automatically reject these articles.

8. HTML code

Most article directories will allow simple HTML to enable certain areas to stand out. ie bold, italics, emphasis, underline, hard return, blockquote, numbered or bullet point lists. Make sure you close every tag that you open otherwise it will format the whole article with that tag.

9. Don't use affiliate URLs

Avoid including affiliate URLs in your article body or resource box. They will be rejected immediately as it looks like you are promoting someone else's offer. If you need to promote an affiliate URL send the reader to your own web site address first then include your affiliate URL on that page.

10. Don't write a sales letter

Articles should be informative. Include tips, strategies, techniques that will help make your reader more knowledgeable. Write to share your expertise on the subject.

Tip

After writing your article let it sit for a while (a few hours or days) before you submit it for publication. Often when you read it again you'll find mistakes you did not see before, and find new ways to rewrite a paragraph or sentence that will make the article more attractive to your readers. If the goal of your article is to attract more readers and visitors to your web site, improving it's effectiveness will help you fulfill that goal.

Fast Article Writing - 5 Techniques to Supercharge Your Article Writing

By Sean R Mize

Article writing can boost your marketing and advertising efforts. In fact, article writing can be your primary marketing tool. It is the cheapest and probably the most effective strategy to increase traffic to your web site. However, you must consider that other internet marketers are also using this strategy. There are lots of competitors out there and barging into the article writing business could be very difficult especially if you don't have enough materials to compete. That is why it is very important to produce tons of articles. And you need to master the art of fast article writing to compete head on. Here are few important tips to help you in your article writing:

1. As much as possible produce multiple articles in a day. It is not enough to write one or two articles in a day. You must produce at least six or more articles so that you will have enough materials to submit to article directories, post in your blogs, send to your email list, and contribute to writing sites.

2. You can also use other articles as reference materials. However, don't plagiarize. Rewrite them and add your own angle or points. In this way, you don't have to start from scratch.

3. To help you in choosing topics, make a list of general ideas. The more ideas you list, it would be easier for you decide later on what among those ideas you will develop into articles.

4. The comments on your blogs are good sources of new ideas. Some bloggers' comments are lengthy discussions of their ideas. Get the most useful points and develop it into articles.

5. Stick to short informative articles. You don't have to write long articles for general information topics. Longer articles are harder to produce and take so much time. Yet, they are usually not being read because online users prefer short, concise articles.

If you're a new writer and want to sell articles

If you want to sell articles to Web sites and you're a new writer, it's best to approach Web sites directly, after you've written the articles. Yes, write the articles first, so the buyer can see what he's getting. You could write ten articles on gift baskets, for example, and offer them to a site which sells gift baskets.

The key for you, if you're an experienced writer, is multiple, on-going sales to sites to which you've sold articles already. Think long-term. First, develop relationships with sites in specific areas - gift baskets, wines, fashion or whatever area appeals to you. Sell the sites a batch of articles.

Can An Article Writing Course Help You Become A Better Writer?

By Andrew Morris

Is this a silly question? Not really, because while it is possible to learn how to craft a sentence and turn a phrase on your own, can you actually learn how to take that creative spark that dwells within and put it on paper (or on a screen)? Just as there are those who are born an artist, there are others who are born with the talent to write a novel, create a perfect sales letter, compel their readers to come along on a journey to another land, adventure or experience.

But even these authors have learned, studied and applied their talent over time to become better at what they do, the art and craft of writing. While there are certainly writing courses delving into the proper turning of phrase, how to evoke an emotional response from the reader; for me the best writing course of all is "just write", then learn from you did.

Over the years, I have written articles, press releases, screenplays and I am now working on a novel. Often when I go back and read something I wrote long ago, I am amazed (not in a good way) about what I read. "Whew," I say to myself, "who in the world wrote that?" And of course the writer was me. Over time as we mature and our life view changes and/or evolves, so too does our talent for writing.

Whether you are a natural writer, or someone who stares at a blank page struggling for the right words ... write. Keep a journal, write a short story, create a web page, start a blog, email your thoughts and feelings ... as long as you keep the pen or keyboard at work. There is not a better teacher and instructor than your own persistence to achieve what you want. And if for you that is writing, then write.

The other day I was asked to write a press release for a multi-national company. They sent me the facts, told me the key issues, then waited for me to deliver. I stared at the page, compiled the data into (what I thought) was a good press release. Guess what? They rejected it, saying it was hard to read. So what did I do, sulk? Well, maybe for a minute or two. I rewrote the article, listening this time to my inner writing voice; telling the same story but in a more captivating manner.

When I sent this release, it was accepted and I was quickly paid, I learned from doing. I believe there are a multitude of talented men and women on the net, many of whom may have a very good course on "creative writing", "how to write a good sales letter", "how to write a good review", and by all mean should you find a book or website that strikes your fancy, jump in. But even then, writing is more important than waiting for inspiration.

We all have an inner muse, use it to motivate yourself to exceed your even your own expectations and create something that is a masterpiece. Whether it is a novel or sales letter, web page or press release: research, write, refine, learn and accomplish.

The Secret to Writing Five to Ten Articles Per Day

By Jo Mark

Many people complain that they have never been successful writing articles. They say that their articles do not bring any meaningful traffic to their website. In most cases, the reason for this is that these people do not write consistently. They probably wrote one or two articles over the course of a week and expected a flood of traffic. When it didn't happen, they gave up.

Writing articles is a great way to bring traffic to your website and generate sales. But you've got to do a lot of it. Writing one article a week is not enough to benefit your website or your bottom line. To be successful writing articles, you've got to submit at least one each day. If you want to be really successful, you should submit three to five (or more) a day.

But how is it possible to write that many articles each day. First of all, I start out with a basic format that I use for all of my articles. Using a simple format for every article I write keeps me focused on the process and enables me to do it quickly.

In the first paragraph I state the reason that I'm writing the article. By using the same basic opening for all of my articles, I am never at a loss on how to start an article.

In the next few paragraphs, I provide the meat of my article. I do this quickly by downloading three or four related articles from an ezine. I take three or four ideas from each article and put them into my own words. Never copy someone else's work. It is illegal and can have severe penalties.

If this is your first time trying to write several articles in one day, write a "list type" article. A list type article starts out with; 10 ways to..., or 5 techniques to..., or 7 secrets of... This is the easiest type of article to write. You merely list the items in the body of your article.

My closing paragraph synopsizes the information contained in the article. By using these techniques, you'll be writing ten articles per day and on your way to super success in no time!

Write Articles That Get Results

Write Articles That Get Results
By Nancy Jackson

It’s no secret that writing and publishing helpful articles is one of the best ways to promote your business. Writing articles can:

* Establish you as an expert in your field.

* Get your name and your company name in front of potential clients who you may never have been able to contact otherwise.

* Create valuable content for you to share with potential clients or convert into speeches and other marketing strategies.

Writing articles for local business publications, trade magazines, newsletters, and Web sites that reach your target audience can be a powerful piece of your marketing plan. But following through can be more difficult than it sounds, as many people hate writing or have a hard time just figuring out where to begin. Plenty of business owners and marketers hire outside firms or freelance writers (like The WriteShop, www.writeshoponline.com) to write articles for them, which can be a time-saving solution. But if you want to write your own articles, it can be tough to know where to begin. These five tips may help you stay focused and get the job done.

1. Narrow your topic. In each article, be sure to address only one main idea —maybe you focus on one problem your readers have, or one solution that may work for them. Trying to cover too many topics in one article just causes confusion. Whenever you find yourself going off on an unrelated tangent, turn that tangent into another, separate article for future use.

2. Write in conversational style. Keep your audience in mind and try to write for them the way you’d speak to them. For most business writing, an informal, conversational style is preferable, especially if your article will be published on the Web. Remember that you want your article to be accessible and understandable for your target audience. Shorter sentences and language that is easy to grasp quickly will have better results than long diatribes full of words that require a dictionary.

3. Offer genuine, helpful information. While your articles are tools to help market your business, they are not advertisements. Don’t fill your articles with promotional material about your company, or your readers will quickly lose interest. Instead, offer them real insight, tips, or advice that shows them you know what you’re talking about. Their interest in your company and what you can do for them will come; but for the sake of your article, focus on providing information they can use.

4. Be brief. Especially when writing for the Web, brevity is crucial. Before sending any article for publication, read through it several times and cut out any unnecessary words. For instance, the word “that” can be eliminated in most cases. Make sure every word counts, and every sentence is meaningful and helpful for communicating your main idea.

5. Distribute, distribute, distribute. Finally, writing an article doesn’t do any good unless you get it in front of your target audience. In addition to publishing your articles on your own Web site or in your newsletter, consider sending them to publishers of print and electronic newsletters, and submit them to Web sites that publish articles on your topic. See the Resource Box below for ideas of specific Web sites where you may want to submit your articles. And remember to always include your contact information so that readers will know how to reach you.

Hopefully, these tips will get you on your way to publishing plenty of articles that will get noticed and yield results. Useful Rules in Effective Article Writing for the Web

Sean R Mize

To be effective and profitable, article writing for the web must follow specific rules. You need to bear in mind that web content articles are being read by web surfers who could easily click away from your site. That’s why your articles should be gripping and can hold the interest of the readers.

Write short articles that can easily be scanned by readers. Internet surfers do not read every copy they find in websites. They just scan the titles and the first paragraph of your article. If they find it dull, they will click away from your site or search for other articles. So the next rule is write a very catchy title, not bombastic, but enough to capture the attention of readers. Another rule in article writing is your first paragraph should contain the main topic and must include key words that are found in your title. In this way, you can grab the interest of your readers.

It is always useful to include a question in your first paragraph so readers will want to know more. The rule in writing the main body of your article is similar to writing your introduction. Make it short. Write simple and brief sentences that contain facts and assertions of facts. Avoid very long sentences that will only confuse your readers. And always write in the first person to make your readers at ease. You should also avoid highly technical terms and hard to understand terms and phrases. Your readers don’t have the time to check on their dictionaries. As much as possible, choose words that are easy to understand.

Your article is your sales copy. Be sure that your salesman is good at conveying his message to your customers. If you want good sales and ever-increasing productivity from your website, always write articles that are effective and persuasive.

Productive Article Writing - 4 Ways to Get People to Read Your Articles

Article marketing is only effective if your articles are being read by your target audience. As a writer, your main concern is to produce articles that are not only of high quality in terms of structure and information, but also in terms of entertainment value. To help you with this, here are some easy tips you can follow to make sure your articles are noticed, and more importantly, read:

1.) Your article must have a title that is both specific and enticing. A vague and boring title would make potential readers look over your article, even if the content itself is well written and interesting. For example, ask yourself which you would rather read, an article entitled "Lose Weight Effectively" or another one entitled "5 Sure Ways to Lose 10 Pounds in 30 Days!" Obviously, the latter article has a more enticing title and is more likely to lure more readers.

2.) After the title, your next concern is the opening paragraph. Set up the readers' expectations right from the start. Give them an idea of what information they're going to get if they continue reading the rest of the article. Make sure that your opening paragraph sustains the excitement and anticipation generated by the title.

3.) The body of the article must live up to the promise of its title and opening paragraph. If your title says "5 Sure Ways to Lose 10 Pounds in 30 Days!" you have to make sure that you give readers exactly that--five sure ways to lose ten pounds in a month. Anything less will disappoint your readers and affect your credibility as a writer.

4.) When necessary, provide a conclusion that gives proper closure to your article. Make sure the closing paragraph leaves readers with satisfaction from reading an entertaining and informative article.

How To Write A Powerful Article That Leaves Readers Wanting More

Johnathan Calvert

Being able to write a powerful article is literally worth its weight in gold! What would it be worth to your marketing strategy if you could write a powerful article and replicate the process time and time again? The answer is simply volumes of targeted traffic to your website that should see your profits soar. This article looks at a simple framework that can be used and repeated for success.

A good starting point is to remember that article marketing one of the best way for you to build up trust and credibility with your audience which will get them wanting more. So what is the framework?

1. Find your target audience. This is crucial because if you don't know your target audience, there's a good chance the reader will not get to the end of the article and click for more information. So when you write a powerful article make sure it is relevant to your audience.

2.Write an attention grabbing headline. This is vital to get the potential readers attention and compelling enough to get them to read your article. The headline is arguably the most important factor to consider and time should be spent writing a good one.

3. And an enticing introduction. The introduction needs to reinforce the headline and pull the reader into the main body of the article. It also needs to explain what the article is going to achieve for the reader and have the ability to interest them.

4. List your main points. Writing for an online audience if very different from writing for a magazine or journal. When you begin to write a powerful article, bear in mind that online readers generally scan articles. So use a similar layout to this article and make it easier for the reader to absorb the information.

5. Expand on each point. All you need to do is write two or three sentences that expand on each point and gives the reader the relevant information. Writing too much can have a negative effect and the points you are trying to get across can be lost.

6. Conclude the article. This is where you draw everything together and literally summarize to the reader what you have just written.

7. Write a compelling resource box. Now you want the reader to click for more information. This could be an opt in page for a free report, your website or an affiliate product link. Make sure you have a call to action that arouses curiosity in the reader, by offering something of value.

So to sum up, spend time writing an attention grabbing headline and introduction, then list the points you want to cover and expand on each point with 2 to 3 sentences to get your point across. Finally, conclude the article and write a compelling resource box. You now have a framework to write a powerful article.

Johnathan Calvert successfully uses article marketing to promote his online business and has found that this method generates targeted traffic that converts very well into sales.

Article Writing - Duplicate Content Vs Reaching Your Readers

Jinger Jarrett

I certainly wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for all of the wonderful article directories that have published my articles.

By publishing my articles, these article directories have allowed me to syndicate my articles on hundreds, possibly thousands of websites throughout the internet.

These directories have also allowed me to brand myself as an expert, build valuable backlinks to my websites, and share my knowledge with my potential customers and readers.

The problem these days seems to be those product owners who are more interested in creating phony trends than they are real products.

These products are supposed to tell you if you have "duplicate content" in your articles, sales letters, and other materials you're posting online.

The problem here is that there are only so many words in the language you speak. Someone, sooner or later, will use the same phrase to say something.

I highly doubt that the search engines are so interested in whether or not you're using a phrase or two that someone else has used.

Now I'm not saying that duplicate content isn't a problem or can't be a problem. I'm sure that the major search engines have probably dropped some articles, or maybe even article directories from their primary search.

This doesn't necessarily mean that it was because of duplicate content. Unless you ask, you can't be sure.

However, your concern as an article writer shouldn't be about how many times you have a particular article indexed in the search engines. Your primary concern should be getting your articles in front of the eyes of as many readers as you possibly can.

People buy; search engines don't.

This means that you should post your articles to as many article directories as possible so that your articles have the widest reach possible.

Again, it's about reach.

We all have our favorite article directories, and if your potential readers don't use the article directories you're posting to, then you've missed out. You've missed reaching a reader, publisher, or someone else.

The bottom line is about convenience. Make it convenient for your reader to find your articles.

There's also the issue of providing value. Google's policy is that your site, and therefore your content, should provide value to those who are searching for it.

If you concern yourself with providing value for your readers, rather than just trying to promote your business, or make a sale, it will definitely make a difference in your bottom line.

Your initial goal should be to find out what your readers are looking for and then give it to them. Give them what they want. Provide value in the process.

If you use "White Hat" tactics to promote your business, you'll succeed, and you'll stay successful long after those who use unethical techniques fail and disappear.

Your readers won't become your customers if you don't treat them right. Show them respect. Help them solve their problems. By providing helpful articles, you can lead your readers to your paid content.

Article writers are experts who generously share their knowledge and experience with others. The difference is that article writers are limited by word count. They must know their topic well enough to express it succinctly in a way that attracts readers and holds their attention.

The second secret, Know the audience for your book, is one that great article writers know, understand and apply. Every writer must identify their niche. Successful article writers and marketers know how to target their audience and design products that meet their needs.

I loved the third secret, Understand what each chapter will contain, because article writers and marketers engage their readers frequently to determine what their needs are and how they want their needs met. Based on the information they gather, they specifically structure it into bite-size pieces their readers are able to consume.

The fourth secret, Understand why you are the author, is no surprise to article writers. They are experts! They feel they have the knowledge or experience others want to know.

Another secret, Create a dynamic marketing plan, is a must for every article marketer. A poor marketing plan will not succeed on the internet. Article marketers and writers compete daily for traffic to their articles and websites. Only those who meet the needs of their readers are successful.

Most of the 21 secrets in Book Proposals that $ell, are practiced daily by article writers and article marketers. Therefore, it would not be a challenge for article writers and marketers to write book proposals. Use your article writing and marketing skills to help your readers meet their needs. If their desire is to write book proposals, you have the skills to help them.

If you would like to tweak your skills before accepting the challenge of writing book proposals, write more articles. Writing templates are an excellent way to learn different ways to attract readers.

Lessie Harvey

If you are new to article writing, you may want to focus on article content only. That's a great start because you should write quality articles. But content should not be your sole focus. Titles are crucial in attracting readers to your article. No matter how great your content is, without an appealing title, readers won't come.

Diane Eble gives great ideas for writing titles in her teleseminar on "How to Choose a Best Selling Title." Although she is a publishing coach, most of what she says can be applied to article titles as well. Following these tips should help you write great article titles.

* Avoid clever titles. Some readers may not be as mentally sharp as you. Since your article is to meet their needs, create a title that will pique their interest or promise to solve their problem.

* Create a desire to read your article. Choose words for your title that communicate the essence and benefits of your article. Know the keywords that appeal to readers in your niche. Use them in your title.

* Make sure your subtitle has a benefit. How will your readers be changed by the information you have given them? Tell them in your title. If the benefit you are offering is what your readers are searching for, they will read your articles. Remember that benefits are not negotiable when creating titles.

* Deliver what you promise. Since your title describes the content and benefits of your article, don't deceive your readers. Give them what you promise. If they like it, they will come back for more.

* Title and subtitle must work together. Your title is your noun and your subtitle is your verb. Let them agree. In agreeing, they are uniting the head and heart of your readers. Your title must appeal to your readers' intellect and your subtitle to their emotions. Strive to capture the head and heart of your readers.

* Add a touch of freshness. Tweak your title in just the right way to give it a different slant. Use the familiar in an unfamiliar way.

* Have a title that is search engine friendly. Use keywords in your title. Search engines like keywords. Give them what they like.

Writing great articles start with writing great titles. Use these tips to increase the amount of traffic to your articles.

Writing templates are also a great way to practice writing great titles.

First, prepare yourself mentally. Be your own cheerleader. Tell yourself that you can write articles. Tell yourself that you have all the thoughts, ideas and words that you need to write good articles people will love to read. Above all, stay positive!

Next, start your research. If you will write an article about a topic you don’t know much about, do some quick research online. Gather facts and information that you can use to write your article.

Once your outline is finished, you’re ready to write the first draft. You should turn off the editorial side of your brain and just write. Let all your ideas flow freely onto the paper. Write every single thing, even if you’re not sure if it fits or not.

Finally, edit, revise, and polish through to the final draft. Fix any grammatical errors you find or spelling errors. All these little things do matter and should be fixed before you publish the article.
